[IN00]
Last time we left Kratos, he was taking his seat with the gods high on top of
Mount Olympus as the new God of War. Through the aid of Athena, Kratos, a mere
mortal, had murdered the original God of War while in service to the gods and
in doing so had finally seeked the vengeance that he had longed for against
Ares. Sitting atop his throne on Mount Olympus, Kratos watches over the city
of Sparta as they wage war to dominate city after city under the eyes of their
god. The painful memories that Kratos still keeps from the gods inability to
let him die and the thought of being shunned by them has caused Kratos to seek
satisfaction in Sparta's conquest and defy his fellow gods.
During a war waged against the city of Rhodes, Kratos decides to ignore
Athena's pleas to stand down and instead descends to the city to help the
Sparta army in delivering the final blow. In the middle of his conquest, his
powers are suddenly weakened and a steel Colossus is awakened to deal with him.
And so the events leading to the beginning of the end are set into motion...
Hi, and welcome to my FAQ/Walkthrough for God of War II. This guide covers the
full game along with every boss battle in heavy detail. I would recommend that
you try to play this fantastic game by yourself before resulting to this
walkthrough, but everything is here if you need guidance.

- - TECHNIQUES/ADVANCED TECHNIQUES - -
===============================================================================
-- Button Tapping
Much like the first God of War, God of War II requires the player to quickly
tap buttons in order to interact with what is happening on the screen. The
sequel requires the player to tap the O button for some interactions. Tapping
the button with your thumb can be quite tiresome and slow, so I suggest using
your index finger at times of major button tapping.
-- Action Sequences
The button tap/directional kills from the first game once again return. When
the enemies displays a O button icon over their head, press the O button while
close to one of them to engage in a minigame where buttons or directions will
appear on the screen as an attack or kill animation occurs. Press the
displayed button or rotate the analog in the displayed direction as it appears
on the screen to keep the animation sequence moving. If the wrong button or
direction is entered or too much time is taken during a prompt then Kratos will
be thrown off by the enemy and suffer damage.
The window of opportunity to perform each button tap or analog rotation will
become smaller with the climb in difficulty, so if you're planning on playing
through God Mode then you'd best be ready or avoid these altogether. Keep in
mind that they are only required in boss battles.
-- Evading
Tap the right analog in any direction to make Kratos roll in that direction to
avoid an oncoming attack. Kratos is invulnerable during the middle animation
of the roll sequence, so if each roll is timed precisely with an enemy attack,
he can actually move through an oncoming attack without taking damage.
-- Blocking
Hold L1 to block an enemy attack. As the game progresses, enemy attacks become
increasingly aggressive and the attack sequences become longer, so it really
pays to learn a particular enemy's set of attacks. Learn the beginning
animations for each enemy's attacks so the attacks can be guarded and evaded
swiftly.
-- Deflecting
(Must have key item: Golden Fleece)
Press L1 as soon as an enemy is about to attack to deflect their attack. Not
all enemy attacks can be deflected - most have to be blockable. Kratos will
instantly send back a projectile attack and he will be able to perform a
counterattack through the [] button with normal attacks. Deflecting is an
extremely useful move when you can learn the precise timing for an enemy
attack. The counterattack will help out a bunch during normal enemy ground
fights.
-- Rage of the Titans
(Must have key item: Rage of the Titans)
Much like Rage of the Gods from the last God of War, Rage of the Titans will
allow Kratos to power up his attacks by pressing L3 + R3. A few of the key
differences with Rage of the Titans are:
(1) Kratos is not invincible during Rage of the Titans. He is basically like a
walking Juggernaut in that he can't be knocked down by normal attacks, but
he can still be grabbed and damaged.
(2) Rage of the Titans can be activated at any time once the meter is about 25%
full.
(3) Rage of the Titans can be turned off at any time while it is activated.
(even during Kratos' kill animations or while he is being attacked)
BIG TIP: Rage of the Titans will allow Kratos to break out of a stone state or
Nymph webbing state instantly, so say if a Gorgon turns you into stone in
midair, you can quickly tap L3 + R3 to quickly break out of the stone before
you hit the ground and avoid being shattered in the process. The rage needs to
be built up enough to activate the Rage of the Titans, obviously.
===============================================================================
- - CHEST TYPES - -
===============================================================================
-- Green Chest
Contains green orbs that will replenish Kratos' life gauge.
-- Blue Chest
Contains blue orbs that will replenish Kratos' magic gauge.
-- Yellow Chest
Contains yellow orbs that will replenish Kratos' Rage of the Titans gauge.
-- Red Chest
Contains red orbs that will allow Kratos to upgrade his weapons and magic
skills.
-- Replenisher Chest
These will alternate between two (sometimes three) flashing colors and will
release orbs of the same color that is present whenever Kratos opens them.
Wait for the color of the orbs that you desire then have Kratos open them at
the point. The chest color will not change once Kratos is in the middle of
opening it.
-- Unmarked Chest
These will give Kratos an assortment of red orbs mixed with other orbs, a
Gorgon Eye, a Phoenix Feather, or possibly one of the hidden special items.
-- Mega Red Chest
Gives Kratos 5000 red orbs.
-- Mega Green Chest
Extends Kratos' life bar.
-- Mega Blue Chest
Extends Kratos' magic bar.
===============================================================================
- - POWERUPS - -
===============================================================================
-- Gorgon Eyes
Collect 6 of these to extend Kratos' life gauge. Only a total of 18 can be
collected.
-- Phoenix Feathers
Collect 6 of these to extend Kratos' magic gauge. Only a total of 18 can be
collected.
===============================================================================
- - WEAPONS - -
===============================================================================
-----------------
Athena's Blades
-----------------
-- Level 1
+ Icarus Lift (X in the air)
Kratos performs a second jump in the air after his first jump.
+ Olympic Ascension (Hold /\)
Kratos knocks his enemy into the air and jumps up with them. Don't hold the /\
button and Kratos will not follow the enemy into the air.
+ Orion's Harpoon (O)
While the enemy is airborne, Kratos grabs the enemy out of the air with one of
his blades then slams the enemy to the ground. This can only be done on
smaller enemies.
+ Athena's Reverse (Tap L1 right before an attack)
Kratos blocks his enemy's attack and staggers them in the process.
+ Plume of Prometheus ([], [], /\)
Kratos steps toward his enemy with two strikes then performs an overhead ground
pound with both blades. This is the most useful move in the game while playing
through the main story. The move has really good range and will stagger most
enemies with its ground pound ender.
-- Level 2
Orb Requirement: 2750
+ Increased Damage
+ Rampage of the Furies (L1 + O) [in the air or on the ground]
Kratos steps toward his enemy while spinning his Athena's Blades in each hand
then ends the combo with several quick stabs.
-- Level 3
Orb Requirement: 5250
+ Increased Damage
+ Spirit of Hercules (/\, /\, /\)
Kratos performs an overhead hit followed by an upward hit then unleashes a very
powerful ground pound with both blades. The ground pound is much stronger than
the normal Plume of Prometheus ground pound. Even though this move has a very
slow startup, it is a godsend for Titan mode.
+ Valor of Hercules (/\, /\, [])
Kratos performs an overhead hit followed by an upward hit then slices all
enemies around him with a hit from both blades. This combo is basically just a
short way to get the max [] attack ender.
+ Cyclone of Chaos (L1 + []) [in the air or on the ground]
Kratos spins his Athena's Blades while spinning and stepping toward his
enemies. In the air he will perform a spin with his blades outstretched while
falling.
-- Level 4
Orb Requirement: 9500
+ Increased Damage
+ Hyperion Charge (Hold [] to Run)
Kratos swipes the enemy with his Athena's Blades then begins to run toward the
enemy. He can do either of the following moves during the run:
+ Hyperion Rush ([] during Run)
Kratos rams the enemy.
+ Hyperion Rise (/\ during Run)
Kratos quickly knocks a nearby enemy into the air while running.
+ Athena's Wrath (/\ after evading with the right analog)
Kratos stops his roll by striking the ground with a blade creating a minor
shockwave.
New Rage of the Titan's move
+ Prometheus' Torment (Hold [] then release)
Kratos swings his blades in all areas around him while he walks around the area
to increase the hits. This move is mainly designed to raise a high hit count
for the level 5 Prometheus' Inferno.
-- Level 5 (MAX)
Orb Requirement: 13500
+ Increased Damage
+ Tartarus Rage (L1 + /\) [in the air or on the ground]
Kratos spins into the air or spins while in the air then plunges both blades
into the ground creating a surge of energy that knocks away his enemies.
New Rage of the Titans Move
+ Prometheus' Inferno (Hold L1 then release)
Kratos unleashes a circular fire wave that surrounds him and consumes his
enemies in flames. This move's power depends on your current combo meter. The
higher the combo, the more this move will hit the surrounding enemies.
(look under "Rage of the Titans" under "Relics" to view more Rage of the Titans
moves)
------------------
Barbarian Hammer
------------------
-- Level 1
+ Crushing Defeat (L1 + [])
Kratos spins while holding the hammer outward to hit any nearby enemies then
ends the spin with a hammer swing. Use the left analog to control what
direction he spins in.
+ Might of the King (L1 + /\) [in the air or on the ground]
Kratos pounds the ground in front of him with the hammer and creates a
shockwave of energy that hits all enemies in his way. This is a very powerful
move and is one of the best moves you'll find with the hammer.
-- Level 2
Orb Requirement: 4500
+ Increased Damage
+ Soul Summon (Flick the right analog)
A soul flies out from the hammer and attacks any nearby enemy.
-- Level 3
Orb Requirement: 17500
+ Increased Damage
+ Legion of Souls
Kratos jumps into the air and pounds the ground then unleashes three souls from
the hammer.
------------------
Spear of Destiny
------------------
-- Level 1
+ Deadly Slash (L1 + [])
Kratos swings the Spear of Destiny to hit any enemy in front of him as it
stretches outward for a greater distance.
+ Piercing Shards (L1 + /\)
Kratos points the spear toward his foe and unleashes a powerful blast of energy
that will likely send his foe flying backwards.
+ Piercing Shards (L1) [in the air only]
Press L1 to perform the normal Piercing Shard move in the air.
-- Level 2
Orb Requirement: 3750
+ Increased Damage
+ Unfortunate Remains (L1 + O)
Kratos pounds the ground with the Spear of Destiny and places a purple crystal
on the field that will detonate a few seconds afterward.
-- Level 3
Orb Requirement: 12500
+ Increased Damage
+ Altering Slash (L1 + [])
The normal Deadly Slash will now place an explosive in the enemy (the enemy
will turn purple). The explosive will eventually go off in a short time to
damage the enemy even further. The explosive will only affect one enemy out of
a group.
------------------
Blade of Olympus
------------------
-- Level 1
+ Divine Absolution (L1 + [])
Kratos steps toward his enemy with a series of three slashes from the Blade of
Olympus - an upward strike and two stabs. The first stab hits multiple times.
+ Divine Retribution (L1 + /\)
Kratos swings the sword toward his enemies and shoots a blast of energy toward
them.
+ Divine Retribution [Air] (L1)
Press L1 to perform the Divine Retribution in the air.
-- Level 2
Orb Requirement: 9000
+ Increased Damage
+ Divine Sacrifice (L1 + O)
Kratos forms a force field around himself while swinging the Blade of Olympus.
The force field will drain red orbs from any foe that comes into contact with
it.
-- Level 3
Orb Requirement: 25000
+ Increased Damage
+ Anger of the Gods ([] or /\)
All of Kratos' normal attacks with the Blade of Olympus will now shoot a beam
from a sword for extra distance.
===============================================================================
- - MAGIC ABILITIES - -
===============================================================================
---------------
Typhon's Bane
---------------
Basically a bow and arrow combination, this weapon allows Kratos to fire energy
arrows at his enemies from long range. Kratos can move the entire time while
aiming and the energy arrows fire more rapidly as the level increases. Notice
that there is no damage upgrade for the attack. The attack will always take
off the same amount and the upgrades will just allow it to be shot faster -
keep that in mind on higher levels.
-- Level 1
Wind Blast (L2 + []) [in the air or on the ground]
Kratos will arm his bow and shoot out an energy arrow as the button is pressed.
-- Level 2
Orb Requirement: 2500
+ Rapid Fire Wind Blast
The arrows can be shot more rapidly as the [] button is pressed.
+ Lethal Vortex (L2 + /\)
Kratos unleashes a flame current that knocks his enemies into the air. This is
an excellent way to instantly ground any enemies that block constantly (Satyrs,
Legionnaire Captains)
-- Level 3 (MAX)
Orb Requirement: 12500
+ Lethal Vortex Upgrade
+ Wind Blast [Charged] (L2 + Hold [])
Kratos can now charge the normal shot of the Typhon's Bane and shoot a bigger
shot that will shatter and seek out nearby enemies.
+ Titan Storm (L2 + O)
Kratos summons wind all around him and pushes it toward his enemies creating a
giant tornado.
--------------
Cronos' Rage
--------------
Through the wrath bestowed upon him by the great titan Cronos, Kratos is given
the power to control lightening by placing a group of three sphere (max) on the
screen that electrify his nearby enemies as they remain. This ability is much
like a mini Poseidon's Rage from the last game, but this ability allows Kratos
to attack while the spheres shock his enemies.
-- Level 1
+ Cronos's Rage (L2) [in the air or on the ground]
Kratos will place electrical spheres around the area each time L2 is pressed.
He can set out a total of three spheres. They will target more enemies and
take more damage as he powers them up.
-- Level 2
Orb Requirement: 3350
+ Increased Damage
+ Targets More Enemies
-- Level 3 (MAX)
Orb Requirement: 15000
+ Increased Damage
+ Targets More Enemies
+ Core Explodes
The sphere will explode in place and cause extra damage to enemies once its
time has expired.
-----------------
Head of Euryale
-----------------
Torn from the head of one of the sisters of Medusa, this Gorgon head allows
Kratos to petrify his enemies in place and shatter them with only a few hits.
With this ability a hulking beast with much endurance can be whittled down to a
pile of pebbles in seconds.
-- Level 1
+ Gorgon Stare (L2 + []) [in the air or on the ground]
The face of Euryale will send a Gorgon Gaze through her eyes that will slowly
petrify an enemy. One really good thing about the stoning process is that an
enemy will start to slow down as they begin to petrify. Use normal attacks to
break smaller enemies and heavy attacks (Plume of Prometheus, Atlas Quake) for
larger enemies.
-- Level 2
Orb Requirement: 4000
+ Gorgon Stare Upgrade
+ Gorgon Flash (L2 + /\) [in the air or on the ground]
Gorgon Flash is a more powerful Gorgon Stare that will speed up the
petrification process of stoning an enemy. Smaller enemies take one shot and
most big enemies take only two shots to stone with the Gorgon Flash.
-- Level 3
Orb Requirement: 8000
+ Gorgon Stare Upgrade
+ Gorgon Blast (L2 + O) [in the air or on the ground]
Gorgon Blast will send out Gazing projectiles that will turn enemies to stone
after a few hits. It depends on the enemy, much like the Gorgon Flash.
+ Gorgon Rage (L2 + Hold O then release)
Gorgon Rage is one of the best abilities you can have on harder levels or while
fighting a bunch of powerful enemies. Charge the O button while holding L2
then release it to automatically stone all enemies around Kratos. Mix this up
with Atlas Quake and you can practically finish off an entire screen of
powerful enemies in just seconds.
-------------
Atlas Quake
-------------
Through the power of the mighty titan Atlas, Kratos is given the gift to shake
the earth by slamming his fist or stomping his foot into the ground thereby
creating a tremor that makes his enemies fly into the air helplessly. Kratos
is completely invincible during the earth-shattering pounds of this move and
can even extend his invincibility through the use of the Max Level Trembling
Earth move.
-- Level 1
+ Trembling Earth (L2) (in the air or on the ground)
Kratos punches the ground followed by an earth-shattering stomp. Each hit
sends enemies skyward.
-- Level 2
Orb Requirement: 4500
+ Increased Damage
+ Trembling Earth Upgrade
-- Level 3
Orb Requirement: 10000
+ Increased Damage
+ Destructive Earth (L2 then tap O)
This allows Kratos to pound the ground during the normal Trembling Earth attack
and sends rocks of magma in all directions throughout the screen. Besides the
damage, the most useful aspect of this move is the fact that Kratos is
completely invincible during this entire sequence!
===============================================================================
- - RELICS - -
===============================================================================
--------------------
Poseidon's Trident
--------------------
A gift from lord Poseidon, this trident will allow Kratos to breathe underwater
and allow him to explore the deep seas of Greece.
+ Swim Up (/\ or X)
+ Swim Down ([])
+ Swim Dash (Hold R1, release)
--------------------
Rage of the Titans
--------------------
Ignited with the ashes of the titan Prometheus, Kratos' determination burns
bright as he lashes out on enemies with his consumed rage. Much like Rage of
the Gods, this will allow Kratos to plow through his enemies with an enhanced
move arsenal, but unlike Rage of the Gods, he is not invincible.
+ Titan's Rage Activate (L3 + R3)
Kratos can activate and deactivate Rage of the Titans by pressing in on both
analogs. The Rage meter must be built up to at least 25% in order to launch
Rage of the Titans.
+ Prometheus' Flare (L1)
This fiery burst will knock back any nearby enemies while Kratos continues his
burning rampage.
---------------------
Amulet of the Fates
---------------------
While surveying the Temple of Lahkesis, Kratos stumbles across the Fate's
amulet that will allow him to slow time so that everything around him moves in
extreme slow motion while he is free to move normally.
+ Amulet Activate (Hold L1 then press R1)
Hold up the Amulet of the Fates in front of any Fate statue with a glowing
green stone and Kratos will slow time around him. Keep in mind that Kratos
must stand in front of the stone on the statue for the Amulet of the Fates to
interact with the stone.
---------------
Golden Fleece
---------------
Handed to him (sort of) by Jason, this Golden Fleece allows Kratos to deflect
projectiles and some of the attacks of his enemies.
+ Argo's Return (L1)
By pressing L1 at the right moment, Kratos can use the Golden Fleece to deflect
enemy projectiles and attacks. Projectiles will usually be reflected back upon
the enemy.
+ Argo's Revenge (L1 to deflect then [])
After deflecting a physical attack, Kratos plunges his blades into the ground
and unleashes the fury from the blow back onto his enemies.
--------------
Icarus Wings
--------------
These wings allow Kratos to glide great distances that he normally couldn't
reach by jumping.
+ Icarus Glide [in the air] (Hold X)
Hold the X button after a double jump in order to make Kratos spread the Icarus
wings and glide. Keep in mind that the wings are somewhat ragged so Kratos'
glides are limited and he will fall after a short time.
+ Icarus Ascension (L1 + X)
Kratos spreads his wings and creates a gust of air while on the ground as
Kratos jumps into the air. This sends his enemies up into the air, allowing
him to attack them as they fall.
+ Icarus Strike [air] (L1 + X)
Kratos spreads his wings while in the air and unleashes a gust of wind that
knocks away his enemies.

[WT00]
This walkthrough was written during my second time of playing through Spartan
(Normal) mode. Even though the walkthrough is wrote from a Spartan mode point
of view the boss fight sections should help out those that attempt Titan mode
as well.
Keep in mind that you can only collect a total of 18 of the 37 Gorgon Eyes and
30 Phoenix Feathers spread throughout the game. All the other chests that may
have contained a Gorgon Eye or Phoenix Feather become red chests after you have
18 of each. That leaves a lot of room for you to miss chest and still get the
required amount, so the locations for all of them are not really needed, but
all of them listed anyway whether you like it or not.
I have made a transcript for each Action Sequence to help out if you problems
timing the button presses. Keep in mind that the button presses and movements
are all random. Each Action Sequence is surrounded with *'s in the
walkthrough.
Here are the ways the required actions are listed in the Action Sequence
paragraphs:
o--------------------------------------------o
[ACTION] = Button Tap
(ACTION) = 180 movement with left analog
@ACTION@ = 360 movement with left analog
><ACTION>< = Shake analog left to right
>>ACTION<< = Tap O button repeatedly
o--------------------------------------------o
The only true spoilers of this FAQ are located in Action Sequences, so just
avoid the portions surrounded by *'s.

Rhodes soldiers will try to overwhelm Kratos in his weakened state as the
Colossus peeps through the windows from outside. Kratos starts with fully
maxed Athena's Blades and Poseidon's Rage from the last game. Any basic combos
will work well for the time being to keep the soldiers at bay. Tapping []
works well for crowd control and [], [], /\ keeps the soldiers grounded while
in groups. You can kill any of them instantly with grabs (O button). The
Colossus will pound on the side of the building throughout the entire battle.
Open the door by pressing R1 near it then lift it up by tapping the O button
when the icon appears. Continue to fight through the soldiers on your way to
the back of the hallway. In an attempt of sheer aggression, the Colossus will
punch through the side of the wall and grab the kneeling soldiers by the
window. The hand can damage Kratos, so wait just a bit before continuing
through the hole in the left wall.
A --GREEN CHEST-- along with plenty of breakable objects will be lying around
in the room ahead. Break the objects around the crates for some extra red
orbs. Climb up the ladder (tap the X button while climbing to move faster).
Walk out to the balcony through the doorway at the top, but get ready to jump
or suffer damage as the Colossus punches the wooden beam supporting the
balcony.

>> Attacks:
- Palm Smash: The Colossus holds his right hand back then crushes whatever is
in the path of his falling palm.
+ How to avoid: Roll right before his arm falls.
----------
- Roman Throw: The Colossus reaches up into the alcove on the side of the
building and grabs an archer. He then chunks the archer at Kratos sending a
shower of soldier body parts toward him. He always throws them to the left
side, so just stay away from that side.
+ How to avoid: Stay away from the left side.
----------
- Fists Smash: The Colossus leans back both arms and pounds the side of the
building closest to him with both fists sending a shockwave across the
ground.
+ How to avoid: Stay away from the area directly in front of the Colossus and
jump to avoid the shockwave.
----------
- Platform Shake: The Colossus grabs the platform that Kratos is on and
aggressively shakes it with his hands. He will only perform this while
you're on the platform with the catapult.
+ How to avoid: Jump off the platform.
----------
- Yell: The Colossus growls at Kratos. It has no effect.

Use this battle to familiarize yourself with dodging attacks through the use of
the right analog. Press the right analog in any direction to have Kratos roll
in that direction. It's good to get used to it now since it will be a
requirement in later boss battles.
Soldiers will pour into the area as the Colossus starts to attack, so you will
need to constantly keep them at bay by performing some sort of attack. Keep
your eye on the Colossus in the background and make sure to roll to the side
right before he presses his palm against the ground in an attempt to crush his
enemy. The Colossus will leave his arm on the ground and that is when you
should attack him by hitting his arm. After a few attacks, the Colossus will
yell and release several orbs. Don't be afraid to use Poseidon's Rage if the
soldiers start to gang up around you too much. There is a --BLUE CHEST-- on
top of the raised area on the left side just in case magic becomes a factor.
When the Colossus is eventually stunned (the screen will zoom in and out on
him), jump up to the raised area on the left side and walk up to the catapult.
Press the R1 button near the catapult to launch a rock directly into the
Colossus' face. Once the rock is launched, it's time to get up and personal
with the Colossus by tapping R1 in front of the catapult again to make Kratos
get into the launching portion of the catapult. Tap O to have Kratos launch
himself directly toward the Colossus' face and trigger an Action Sequence. Tap
the buttons as they display on the screen to put a dent in that hard steel.

~~ Bathhouse ~~
Kratos will land in a nearby bathhouse. Surface to the top of the pool (X or
O) then destroy the boards along the side for some extra orbs. Lucky for
Kratos, some lovely ladies are taking a bath in one of the pools and will
reward him with red orbs for his godly dominance. Walk over to them and press
the O button to engage in a censored Action Sequence. Deliver the right moves
upon them and they will reward Kratos greatly with red orbs once satisfied.
Keep in mind that you will need to rotate the left analog clockwise and shake
it rapidly from right to left toward the end. Unleash the Kraken!
Jump back into the pool once your ego is filled and descend to the bottom ([]
button) then swim through the opening at the bottom of the pool. Perform a
swim charge (Hold R1 then release) directly into the drain gate to bash through
it. Surface on the other side then find the platform with the ladder to the
right. Climb the ladder to find a pillar of light (save point). Press R1
while standing in the middle of the light to save.
Pull the shiny switch (R1) to the side in order to make a shiny hook move by
and stop in front of the entrance on the opposite side of the room. Press R1
while near the shiny hook to have Kratos throw out his Athena's Blades then
hold R1 to swing via the chain on the blades. Press X to jump to the other
side as you swing toward it. Keep in mind that you can jump and still press R1
in the air to grapple onto shiny objects such as the hook - this will come in
much handy later.
~~ Outside the Bathhouse ~~
Hop up the next few platforms then open the door. A few Rhodes soldiers will
attack in the room ahead. Break the objects along the side of the room for
some extra red orbs. After climbing the ladder, walk towards the soldiers in
the background then prepare to tap the O button as the Colossus' foot breaks
through the roof in an attempt to smash Kratos. Damn thing!
Walk over to the remains of the ladder on the left side of the wall. There is
a --BLUE CHEST-- on the wall to the side of the ladder and a --RED CHEST-- in
the alcove near the debris across from the ladder. Climb anywhere on the dark
portion of the wall where the broken ladder is. Use X while climbing in any
direction (except down) to move faster in that direction. Keep in mind that
you can use the R1 button to move down the wall faster. That annoying Colossus
will damage the wall in two areas as you make your way to the left. When he
damages the wall the second time, leap away from the wall by pressing away from
it along with the jump button (press directly down, not diagonal) to find
another --RED CHEST-- on the platform below the wall. Jump back to the wall
and climb up to the top of the left side of the wall.

>> Attacks:
- Quake Combo: The Colossus punches the platform twice with his right hand and
then shoulder rams the platform with his left arm. This is only while
standing on the platform that you climb up to after climbing the wall.
+ How to avoid: Jump as he hits the platform or jump off the platform.
----------
- Fist Slam: The Colossus leans back his left (or right) arm then tries to
smash Kratos with his fist. He quickly swings his arm away (this portion can
still hit Kratos).
+ How to avoid: Jump or roll as his arm falls. Roll as he moves his arm back
(if you're in the direction of it) or keep your distance.
----------
- Hand Swipe: The Colossus leans back his left (or right) hand then performs a
horizontal swipe across the area in front of him.
+ How to avoid: Roll toward his arm.
----------
- Knuckle Slam: The Colossus leans his left (or right) arm high into the air
and pounds the ground with his knuckles.
+ How to avoid: Move away from the fist.
----------
- Arm Strike: The Colossus holds his left (or right) arm toward Kratos and
slams his arm and the back of his fist toward him.
+ How to avoid: Roll right as the arm is about to make contact with Kratos.
This must be timed very well.
----------
- Palm Smash: The Colossus quickly rakes his palm across the area and moves it
toward the side wall of the platform that Kratos is on.
+ How to avoid: Move to the outer edge closest to the ocean of the current
platform (where he performs his knuckle slam).
----------
- Double Fist Slam: The Colossus yells out of frustration while holding up both
arms then slams them both down in the middle of the current platform that
Kratos is on. He will only perform this after he is hit enough time to
release orbs.
+ How to avoid: Move to either side of the platform and jump to avoid the
tremble from the attack.
----------
- Angry Yell: The Colossus plants both hands on the platform then yells and
smacks the platform with one of his hands. This cannot hit you.
Upon climbing to the top of the wall, the Colossus will once again show
himself. Jump down to the area below and prepare for battle.
The Colossus has some new attacks this time and his attacks will differ
depending on where you are standing. Stay away from the far right of the right
platform and far left of the left platform or he will perform his knuckle slam
or arm strike. He only does the arm strike when you start to get too close to
either side and will perform the knuckle slam when you are at the furthest end
of either side. Both can be avoided but it's hard to hit him after these
attacks.
There is a chain in the middle of the two platforms but it is not wise to
transition from one side to the other while fighting him since the Colossus
will perform a palm smash toward your current platform to reposition himself.
If you do use the hook to swing to the other side then make sure that the
Colossus is attacking so you'll have a chance to avoid the palm smash.
Stay in the middle and wait for him to perform his fist slam. While rolling,
make sure to roll toward the side closest to his inner fingers (away from his
arm) since he will quickly swing his arm away after his fist comes crashing
down (roll left for left fist and right for right fist). Attack his fist while
he recovers from the fist slam in order to damage him. Don't stand too close
to his fist while attacking or you will suffer damage as he swings his arm
away. Attack his hands whenever he props them up along the side of the
platforms to hurt him even more, but make sure to watch for his attacks. You
can also jump in the air near him and unleash Poseidon's Rage for good amount
of damage.
Once the Colossus has been stunned three times, he will lean over and place his
arm on the far side of the opposite platform and have an icon over his head.
Run and swing over to the platform he is leaning on and press O button for an
Action sequence.

~~ Palace ~~
A --BLUE CHEST-- will be lying to the side of the room that Kratos lands in.
Hop up to the platform up ahead then open the door. Ignore the Archers and red
chest behind the gate around the corner of the hall - all of those will be
dealt with in a few minutes. Turn to the right down the hall to find a save
point. Move down the other side of the hall and a group of soldiers will rush
Kratos. Finish off the Archers near the door at the end of hall.
+ + BLOCK & PRESSURE SWITCH PUZZLE + +
Find the block with the bird on top on the left side after stepping out of the
hall then use R1 to grasp it and move it over the pressure switch next to the
gate. You can destroy the bird on top for some extra red orbs. While the
block is on the pressure switch, kick it to the other side by holding X and
releasing it while grappling the block. Stand on the pressure switch on your
side then flick the right analog toward the gate to quickly roll under it.
Just in case you forgot to kick the block through, there is a gate that you can
open down the hall to the right.
The block is destined to stand on the pressure switch on the other side of the
gate, but first we need it to collect some bonus chests. Kick the block down
the hall to the right then kick it to the hall in the background (Kratos'
left). Kick it to the wall at the far end and stand on it then jump to the
three chests up above. There are --2 RED CHESTS-- and one --UNMARKED CHEST--
containing the ++URN OF GAIA++. Kick the block back to the pressure switch and
move it on top to open the gate to the next hall.
*Note: Keep in mind that you must first break the small bird statue on top of
the block in order to stand on it.
Move down the hall to the left of the --GREEN CHEST-- and some more soldiers
will suddenly appear. Make your way to the Archers in the back so they don't
stand back and shoot you from afar. Don't pull the switch on the lift just yet
at the intersection since you can find the --RED CHEST-- from earlier on the
other side by moving toward the camera. Pull the switch on the lift.
~~ Eastern Ramparts ~~
Get off the lift when it reaches the top then rush up and hit the Colossus' eye
as he peaks through the doorway. The hall will fall to the ground and Kratos
will fall through doorway. Walk toward the railing in the back for a cutscene.
So I guess Zeus isn't such a bad guy after all. Jump up to the ledge
supporting the broken ladder against the left wall then move under the next
highest ledge to the right and leap up to it. Pull yourself up with X once
Kratos has grabbed on. Take in the sights of your next soldier slaughter as
you prepare to jump to the floor above and deal with the soldiers grouped
together. Make your way to the Archers first then take out the rest. There is
another set of Archers by the doors in the background and they will shoot from
a distance so take them down quickly as well.
Kick open the doors with the R1 button and open the --GREEN CHEST-- if needed.
Destroy the windows ahead then fall down to the area below and defeat the
Archers on the raised platform then deal with the soldiers. Perform a jump
while below the ledge to notice some red chests up above - it's good to know
where their located since the camera angle won't show them from above. Use the
ladder on the right side of the side you entered from to get back up to where
the window was. Carefully move across the ledges and jump across to the ledge
with the --2 RED CHESTS-- that the camera faces away from. You can also move
across the ledge to the right of the save point up ahead to get a good view of
one of the red chests. Make your way over to the save point then climb up the
ladder to the side.
Jump to the chain overlooking the hole then slide down to the floor below.
Fight off the soldiers then replenish your health or magic with the
--BLUE CHEST-- and --GREEN CHEST-- on the sides of the door. Open the door
then run outside. And when I say "run outside", I mean to keep the left analog
held to the top right position since the Colossus will destroy the bridge as
the camera angle switches. Make sure to double jump as you near the end of the
bridge since Kratos will most likely not make it if you don't - though I have
made it before (just barely) without jumping.

>> Attacks:
- Arm Swipe: The Colossus leans his left arm to the left side and rakes the
area in front of him.
+ How to Avoid: Roll the second right before it hits.
----------
- Arm Swipe Combo: The Colossus leans his left arm to the right side and rakes
the area in front of him twice then pounds the ground with his fist sending a
shockwave across the platform.
+ How to Avoid: Roll the second right before the first two swipes hit then jump
to avoid the shockwave. I would advise you to roll away from the Colossus
while avoiding the first two rakes so you'll have time to jump when avoiding
the fist slam. This takes some good timing to avoid all three attacks.
----------
- Fire Waves: The Colossus pounds the side of the platform with his damaged arm
sending empty trails through the platform that eventually erupt into blue
flames.
+ How to Avoid: Stand in between the trails that move across the ground. The
flames always appear in the same areas, so just remember a good place to
stand.
----------
- Fist Slam: The Colossus quickly leans over and slams his fist onto the
platform creating a shockwave.
+ How to Avoid: Stay away from the middle area and jump to avoid the shockwave.
----------
- Flame Spray: While the Colossus is leaning on the platform, it shoots a blue
flame from its damaged arm and moves its arm across the area in front of it
to spread the flame.
+ How to Avoid: Move/Roll away from the immediate area in front of him.
Don't even think of grabbing that Sword of Olympus yet, since it will take time
to be able to use it. At the start of the battle, the Colossus will
immediately slam his damaged arm into the side of the platform and send fire
waves across the area. Find a good place to stand in between the waves. The
object here is to stun the Colossus so Kratos has enough time to bestow his
godly powers into the Sword of Olympus. You will need to stun him a total of
three times in order to fully power the sword.
You may have noticed that his broken hand is lying to the right side of the
platform. Walk over to the hand and face the knuckles then tap R1 to make
Kratos hurl the hand directly toward the Colossus for an instant stun. I would
advise you to save this freebie stun for the third phase since your magic will
be gone by then. To easily stun the Colossus stand in front of him and use
Poseidon's Rage to quickly eat away at his health. It takes about three
Poseidon's Rages but it will eventually stun him. You can also stand directly
in front of the Colossus and hit him anywhere on his body, but remember to
avoid his arm swipe combo since he will perform it regularly while you're up
close. Watch his arms and keep in mind that his swing from the left is a
single swing while his swing from the right will result in a combination
attack.
Run over and grab the Sword of Olympus with R1 and hold the button whenever the
Colossus is stunned to make Kratos bestow his remaining powers into the blade.
He will bestow his experience into the blade first (all red orbs and power
levels for his Athena's Blades) followed by his magic gauge (all magic will be
gone along with Poseidon's Rage) and then he will give up his remaining health
(his life gauge will fall by half). Once the blade of Olympus is fully
powered, Kratos will pull it out of the ground and fire a shot at the Colossus.
The Colossus will lean over at this point and only perform a flame attack where
he will flame the immediate area in front of him. Stand close to the Colossus
and hit him with any of the combos from the Blade of Olympus. Watch for the
Colossus to turn his head then quickly roll away to avoid his flame attack. It
takes very little damage since Kratos' life gauge is so incredibly low at this
point. Once he has been stunned three times, the icon will appear for the
button tap sequence. It doesn't involve any button tapping though!
UPDATE: During the second part of the battle when the Colossus is leaning, you
can also stand far away from him and use Divine Retribution (L1 + /\) to shoot
light shots at him from a safe distance. He can't reach you with any attacks
at that point.

The camera angles can get very annoying in here thanks to such a tight area and
the camera's willingness to show you the flaming columns, so be careful while
moving along the platforms. Slice through the soldiers on the platform up
ahead with your new Blade of Olympus and continue onward. You can hit the
suspended sandbags along the side for some extra red orbs. The burning
structures at the top of the area will start to get in the way while moving
along the platforms. Hop over the first burning bar that lies in the way of
the wooden platform with some well-timed jumping. When you come upon the tall
burning column lying in your path, move across the ledge on the left and press
R1 when the icon appears to have Kratos stab the circular middle portion of the
flame column to absorb the Colossus' power into the blade.
The burning bars for the lower portion will crumble once the burning middle
portion of the column has been stabbed. Leap across to the platform where the
burning bar previously blocked your path and climb onto the netted ropes on the
side of the wall. Climb over to the next platform then jump to the rope below
the burning column up above. Use the rope to climb over to the other side
across from you. Press R1 to drop while above the platform ahead then continue
onward and fight through the next batch of soldiers.
Jump to the platform above then walk carefully across the narrow ledge. Don't
go straight though since a flaming bar is blocking the way. Turn to the left
and move toward the circular portion of the flaming column. Hit the chain
around the column with normal attacks then press R1 to stab it. Use the
--GREEN CHEST-- to the side if needed then run back across the narrow ledge and
walk to the side that the flaming bar was blocking previously.
Hop up to the next platform and continue onward. A few soldiers will attack
then you will need to scale another netted rope. Some more soldiers will
attack after getting off the rope. Walk over to the boards in front of the
flaming circular portion of the burning column and Kratos will hug the wall.
Inch across the small ledge on the side of the wood cover housing the column.
Use R1 to make Kratos drop and grab onto the ledge then move under the burning
bar that will be lying along the side. Press X to have Kratos pull himself
back up then jump to the circular portion of the burning column. Destroy the
chains and stab the column with R1.
The camera will zoom in to show a rope, where one of the burning bars used to
be, but first turn around then run over toward the netted ropes against the
wall across from where the flame column was and climb to the platform above to
find an --UNMARKED CHEST-- containing your first ++GORGON EYE (1/37)++. Jump
and climb the rope that was shown a few moments ago then jump off when the
wooden platform up above comes into view. Leap along the next few platforms
then climb the ladder.
+ + PENDULUM PUZZLE + +
When the camera shows a very confusing overhead view, walk over to the switch
and pull it to make a metal pendulum extend downwards. You can't move across
the rope yet since the beams powering the Colossus' eyes are in the way. Climb
back down the ladder then attack the pendulum so that it moves back and forth -
just one attack will do; it doesn't take several. Climb back up to the
platform above then pull the switch again to make the bottom of the pendulum
move back upwards. Watch as the pendulum moves from side to side and blocks
the blue rays that hit the inside of the Colossus' eyes. You need to move
along the rope and climb by both blue rays as the pendulum blocks them from
hitting the rope. The pendulum will remain moving so there is no time issue
involved in its swinging.
Drop to the wooden platform on the other side and jump over the burning bar in
your path. This wooden platform will lead you to the final burning circular
column. Destroy the chain and plunge the Blade of Olympus into the burning
column.
Without any type of power source, the Colossus will start to crumble. Control
of Kratos will be given back to you at this point and you must quickly hop
across the platforms and make your way toward the Colossus' mouth. Drop out of
its mouth to continue.
~~ East Ramparts ~~
After the Colossus tags Kratos in the cutscene, control will be given back to
the player. All of Kratos' attacks and movements are basically nonexistent
during this period and even the slightest bit of movement is a near impossible
task for him to perform. Lurch toward the Blade of Olympus.

Kratos will start out clinging to a wall of the underworld with very little
life. The Arms of Hades protruding from the wall must be defeated in order to
climb. Each hand only takes two weak strikes or one heavy strike to defeat -
heavy strikes are recommended since they can defeat tons of hands at one time.
The hands will cough up green orbs and they take very little life with each
hit, so it is near impossible to die here.
Make your way to the right and jump to the next wall on the right. Jump to the
wall up above from the right wall and continue moving upward and slashing to
get out of the underworld.
